In 1934, Central Radio Company, Inc. (CRCI) entered the field of installation, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of marine and industrial electrical and electronic equipment. During World War II, the company had primary responsibility for installation and activation of electronic navigation and communication equipment on cargo vessels constructed in the Atlantic and Gulf Coast areas, electronics inspection and certification of cargo vessels prior to putting to sea under convoy, and various special projects for the United States Navy. During the early 1950’s, noting the U.S. Government’s increasing reliance on private industry for ship repair and overhaul, CRCI developed a program to provide an electronic capability to meet the Government requirements. CRCI has performed electronic equipment design, installations, repairs, testing, and overhauls on U. S. Navy and Military Sealift vessels for more than 70 years throughout the world. All work has been accomplished in accordance with specifications to the satisfaction of the customer and within required performance periods. All military and most commercial jobs have been the result of specification review and cost estimate submission prior to actual award of contract.

CRCI is experienced in all current communication, Navigation Aides, Radar, 1FF, SAT NAV, GPS, Countermeasures, Sonar, C1WS, SRBOC, ASROC, 27TV, ESS, MAASS, Interior Communications equipment on U. S. Navy and commercial vessels. CRCI is certified to conduct cableway and EMI inspections and install high density connectors, fiber optic connectors and cable. CRCI is also trained to repair and install various types of pan tilt cameras as well as wireless (CANOPY) infrastructure to carry video signals or expanding networks.

CRCI’s personnel have been integrally involved with the engineering, development, installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing various video distribution systems aboard US naval vessels. These systems include but are not limited to CKT27TV, Engineering Surveillance Systems, Master at Arms Surveillance Systems, 6TV, 14TV, and HOSS. Personnel have attended manufacture’s training of the latest state of the art video imaging and storage devices.

In it’s history, CRCI has installed and refurbished hundreds of antennas of various types and determined the impedance, insertion loss, and voltage standing wave ratio on thousands of transmission lines, waveguides, and antennas. CRCI fabricates LWCA antennas for SPAWAR Portsmouth. CRCI has manufactured and installed (including designing, building, and optimizing the impedance matching network in various ports throughout the world) lightweight fan antennas for all classes of ships as the AIT for.the SPAWAR Antenna Maintenance Contract. Given a limited window of time for each antenna system installation and testing, CRCI’s plan for managing each installation had to include critical logistic and personnel support elements with contingency plans to cover any possible material, test equipment or personnel problems that could prevent accomplishment of the antenna installation in the allowed time frame. CRCI also fabricates, installs, and matches the new IHFA (LPD-17) antennas for SPAWAR. Additionally, CRCI has removed, repaired, refurbished, installed, and tested antenna whip tilt mechanism on various vessels. Most recent tasks have been Cable/Transducer replacements on USS Cape St George, USS Porter, USS Stout, USS Cook, USS Cole, and USS Mahan.
